College of Mount Saint Vincent

Kings New York is located in Riverdale, a safe and affluent part of the Bronx in New York, just a 30-minute subway ride to the center of Manhattan.

The modern language center is situated within the renowned College of Mount Saint Vincent, a liberal arts college established in 1847 and one of the five oldest colleges in New York City. Not only does the university boast a rich history, but its splendid location, unique campus, and excellent learning facilities add to its appeal. Staying at Mount Saint Vincent College provides our young participants with an ideal opportunity to experience the charms of studying in America.

The classrooms are bright and spacious, and part of the university complex includes a library with computers, sports facilities, a gym, a school restaurant, a fantastic terrace, and excellent student accommodation.

Program

Age range: 16-28. The active NEW YORK program is for students who want to improve their English but still have plenty of free time outside of class.

Prior to starting a course, you will take a placement test, so that teachers can assess your level of English and place you in an appropriate group.

Kings English courses are built on the foundation of the four core English skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing. Learners are encouraged to participate actively in the process of learning and acquiring the new language, while learner independence is constantly promoted. All school teachers are experienced, native level English speakers, and many are qualified to Masters or PhD level.

active NEW YORK program can be taken in two options: 1) Vacation English, and 2) Vacation TOEFL. With both options the student can learn English for up to 12 weeks on a Visitor Visa (no need for a Student Visa).

Vacation English – There are 20 lessons (15 hours) per week. Your general English lessons will improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening at a consistent rate. Each week, lessons will focus on a different topic. Minimum entry level: Beginner

Vacation TOEFL – This program also has 20 lessons (15 hours) per week and is ideal for students who want to prepare for the TOEFL test. In addition to developing TOEFL skills and strategies, you will improve your overall academic English proficiency to be better equipped for studies at a US college or university. Minimum entry level: Intermediate

You’ll have lots of time to explore New York after lessons. These experiences will reinforce the new skills you have been learning in class by allowing you to use your English in the real world. The two weekly activities (included in the price) could be visits to:

  • Manhattan
  • Empire State Building
  • American Museum of Natural History
  • Guggenheim Museum
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Arts
  • 9/11Memorial and Museum

There are other optional activities and excursions which you may join.

Accommodation

Residence

Residence Accommodation on Campus, College of Mount Saint Vincent

The student residence is located within the campus, just a 1 to 2-minute walk from the main office of Kings school and the classrooms where classes are held.

Accommodation is in spacious double rooms, with separate floors for male and female rooms, as well as shared bathrooms that are mutually separated.

The stay is based on accommodations only. There is an option for half-board (breakfast and lunch) in the modern school restaurant with a weekly supplement of $155. The residence also features well-equipped communal kitchens for those who choose self-catering.

Participants bring their own towels and maintain their rooms, while common areas are cleaned daily. In the shared spaces, there are laundry machines, a hairdryer, microwave, and refrigerator. On the campus, facilities include a gym, computer lab, TV rooms, library, cafes, sports courts, and a music studio. The use of wireless internet is free. 24-hour security ensures safety and order on the campus.

Homestay

Staying with a host family is an excellent way to experience American lifestyle and immerse yourself in practicing spoken English intensively. Accommodation for participants aged 16 and older is provided in carefully selected families, in single rooms with half-board meals (breakfast and dinner).

Participants need to bring their own towels, while laundry is done once a week.

The average distance from the host families to the school building is approximately 45-55 minutes by public transport.

‼️ FAMILY ACCOMMODATION: High season supplement applies from June 16 to August 11 – $35 per week.

The price includes

English language course (15 hours per week), non-refundable enrollment administrative fees ($175), two activities per week, accommodation/meals as described in the price list, textbook and complete teaching materials, diagnostic test at the beginning of the course, and a certificate upon course completion, as well as access to the excellent Kings online English language learning platform.

The price does not include

Registration $80, airfare and related airport taxes, airport transfers, local transportation in New York, travel health insurance.
