German Summer School: active VIENNA – Holiday Course (for ages 16-19 years)

The active VIENNA – Holiday Course program offers a unique combination of learning German and a diverse extracurricular activity program tailored for young people aged 16-19. During the weekdays, we explore Vienna, taking pictures in front of impressive buildings and royal residences. On weekends, we visit magnificent castles and cities like Salzburg.

Why to choose Vienna

The German spoken by Austrians is the purest and most melodic variant of the language. When Vienna is mentioned, thoughts inevitably turn to Mozart and Beethoven, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, the New Year’s concert, exquisite pastries, and wine…

However, modern Vienna offers much more than memories of its glorious history. According to recent research, Vienna enjoys a reputation as a cosmopolitan city with the highest standard of living worldwide and one of the safest capitals.

School

The ActiLingua school is located near the Belvedere Palace in a quiet residential neighborhood surrounded by numerous embassies. Founded in 1988, the school is accredited by IALC and ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch). In addition to modern, air-conditioned classrooms, students have access to a multimedia library with 17 computers and free internet.

The German Summer School in Vienna (active VIENNA-Holiday Course) takes place in the school’s Sacre Coeur branch, right next to the main school building. The spacious garden and numerous sports facilities make this venue particularly popular among young participants.

Program

The program offers a standard German language course with 20 hours of German per week (from 09:00 to 12:15), or an intensive course with 30 hours of German per week (from 09:00 to 12:15, and from 13:30 to 14:00). In both cases, classes are held in small groups of 8 to 15 students, and the price includes an additional 5 hours of extracurricular activities and cultural programs.

The minimum program length is two weeks, and the maximum is six weeks.

Activities & Excursions

As part of the program, the school organizes various activities: visits to palaces, museums, and other Vienna landmarks with teachers, as well as sports activities, picnics, and entertainment almost every evening.

These activities take place in the afternoon and evening, aiming not only to provide entertainment but also to give students the opportunity to socialize with schoolmates after classes and apply their German language skills in real-life situations.

Some activities are included in the program price (for 4 days a week), while others are optional and require an additional fee (details in the “not included in the price” section).

During the program, public transportation must be used; the weekly ticket costs around €30 and is paid upon arrival at the school.

Accommodation

Participants of the German Holiday Course Program stay at the brand-new B&B Hotel in single or shared rooms, each with a private bathroom.

The B&B Hotel is modern, urban, and centrally located, just a 15-minute public transport ride from the school. It offers a lively, international atmosphere, creating an ideal setting for students to connect and experience Vienna.

The rooms are air-conditioned, cleaned every third day, and come with towels. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and breakfast is included daily.

Special roommate requests are accommodated, and we aim to pair students of similar ages and different nationalities for a more enriching experience.

Lunch and dinner are not included, but students can enjoy discounts at nearby partner restaurants with their ActiLingua card.

Upon arrival, a deposit of €100 is payable by the participant. This amount is refunded on the last day of the program if no damage has occurred.

Dates & Prices

Individual departures on July 5th, July 19th, and August 2nd.

Terms for absolute beginners: June 5th and August 2nd.

⚠️  Departure is always on Sundays, with return on Saturdays.

Included in the price:

Selected German language course, 5 hours of extracurricular activities per week (four days a week), accommodation in double rooms in the student residence, half-board (breakfast and dinner), textbooks and complete teaching materials, diagnostic test at the beginning of the course, and a certificate upon course completion, free internet access.

Not included in the price:

Documentation and enrollment processing fee: €100, travel expenses (airfare with corresponding airport taxes and transfers), local transportation in Vienna (€30 per week), and travel insurance.

⚠️  When comparing prices of German summer language schools, it should be noted that unlike the active BERLIN-Berlin College program or the youth Splash camp in Berlin, the summer schools in Vienna do not include half-day or full-day excursions in the program price. Therefore, it is necessary to budget €90 for a full-day excursion to Salzburg and €50 for a half-day excursion to Laxenburg or Burg Kreuzenstein, as well as €30 per week for organized sightseeing tours with a guide.

⚠️ German summer schools in Berlin include travel insurance in the program price, while for camps in Vienna, travel insurance is purchased separately.
