Adventure camp for kids: A unique approach to language learning with a rich program of activities and excursions for ages 7-17.
Within each of us lies a Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn calling us to embark on imaginative journeys and explore nature. Would you like to learn various survival skills in nature, compete in building rafts or camp houses, try your hand at archery and fencing, all while learning English and making friends from around the world? Verbalists take you to an adventure camp where imagination becomes reality – heading to Marchants Hill in the heart of England!
School and Camp Organizer – PGL

Our long-standing partner, the British PGL, is a world-leading and the largest organizer of summer adventure camps in the UK. With over 60 years of experience, they have provided language and adventure camps for over a hundred thousand young people, now held at 16 prestigious locations – 13 in the UK and 3 in France.
When it comes to safety and working with young people, the Verbalists language network has gained an excellent reputation globally. This is primarily because we ensure that all our partner educators in the field of educating minors have experience, expertise, and high ratings from independent regulatory bodies. PGL excels in this!
PGL organization is the founder of the BAPA (British Activity Providers Association), responsible for monitoring and evaluating the work of educational institutions focusing on children’s adventurous activities. Among numerous accreditations, notable ones are awarded by the British Council and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).
All English language teachers at PGL school hold the CELTA certificate (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Marchants Hill Campus

Summer camp where everything is in one place – classrooms, dormitories, restaurant, playrooms, disco hall, lake, large playground, courses, sports halls, and shops (click on the image for an enlarged view).
This is the most popular center in PGL’s offerings, among other reasons, due to its excellent location. Marchants Hill summer camp is ideally positioned – Heathrow Airport is just over an hour away from the camp, and major tourist destinations like London, Oxford, Brighton, and Windsor Castle are nearby. The center is located on the slopes of the plateau near Hindhead in the Surrey region.
Address: Tilford Road, Hindhead, Surrey, GU26 6RF.
➡️ You can view the camp map here.
It boasts sports fields, excellent facilities for up to 20 adventure activities, a lake for water sports, and 45 hectares of open space and lush greenery for all the challenges and needs of a real adventure park. Click here for a description of the camp’s key features.

Safety
Marchants Hill center undergoes regular independent inspection controls and is licensed by BAPA (British Activity Providers Association), AALA (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority), and BCU (British Canoe Union).
The PGL program organizer ensures that safety is always at the highest level. Children are provided with professional equipment that is regularly checked.
PGL instructors and staff with years of experience working with children, licensed by the UK regulatory body for teaching outside the classroom (LOtC Council), provide control and continuous support during the camp stay.
The mission of the PGL camp is to refine the English language skills of young participants and strengthen their independence, resourcefulness, courage, and adventurous spirit. Here’s how:
Program

This summer English school for children is designed for ages 7-17. Participants are divided into groups by age (7-10), (10-13), and (13-17).
The teaching method is communicative, so each student participates in interactive group work or projects. The English lesson schedule is 20 hours per week (15 hours), with classes held alternately in the morning and afternoon in small groups with a maximum of 12 students. The entire program is designed so that English is perfected not only in lessons but also during organized activities.
During the summer months, British children also stay at the camp, which is ideal for young people from other parts of the world for their more complete integration and faster learning of the English language.
Activities and Adventures

The full-day program is divided into morning and afternoon activities. During extracurricular activities, the focus is on group work, building children’s confidence, developing leadership skills, responsibility, and teamwork, overcoming fears and shyness in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Friendships for a lifetime are forged after activities beside the campfire, during disco nights, and through various games.
Numerous age-appropriate activities take place on excellent courses in a controlled environment and with the help of experienced, specially trained instructors. Some of these activities include:
- building camp houses in nature from natural materials; learning the basics of first aid;
- survivor – learning the basics of navigation and meteorology, as well as wilderness survival training;
- climbing an artificial rock wall (under close supervision and using safety equipment);
- aeroball – an activity that involves a trampoline, a basketball, and a hoop… it’s up to you to imagine the concept 😊
- archery and fencing;
- sensory trail – a favorite activity of Verbalists during which, with the help of staff and friends, we overcome obstacles with our eyes closed;
- Jacob’s ladder – team climbing on giant ladders; raft building and kayaking; trapeze and trampoline training;
- various classic sports activities.
The fun doesn’t stop even when it gets dark because then comes “hide and seek” but in a much larger concept than we’re used to, campfire, “capture the flag” game, photo challenge, disco nights…
Excursions
Excursions are responsible for shopping and socializing. However, excursions are also essential for learning about history and British culture, and the location of the Marchant Hill camp is ideal for reaching London and other popular destinations without long bus rides. The price of the two-week program includes two full-day and two half-day excursions.
Full-day excursions:
- London, sightseeing, and shopping (Westminster Bridge, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, and Covent Garden);
- Oxford (visit to the oldest university, lunch by the river, shopping, and other activities).
Depending on the schedule and the number of weeks, the following half-day excursions are available:
- Portsmouth, one of the world’s most famous ports and home to the Royal Navy;
- Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and the favorite residence of the British queen;
- Brighton, a favorite seaside resort;
- Thorpe Park, a famous European amusement park.
Accommodation
Accommodation is within the campus, and the staff takes special care of its quality. There are 4-6 students in a room with a private bathroom. The residence provides bedding. Rooms are cleaned once a week. Participants should bring their towels, and we recommend two – one for showering and one for wet activities.
The stay is on a full board basis. The food in the campus restaurant is excellent and diverse. You can view a sample menu here. On days of full-day excursions, a lunch pack is provided.
