Where Does Popeye Live? In One of Our Students’ Favorite Summer School Adventures
Some activities are fun. Others stay with you for a lifetime.
13-DEC-2025 | A visit to Popeye Village is undoubtedly one of the most beloved and memorable experiences of the Malta Summer School, a program that for over 20 years has been delivered in partnership with our exclusive academic partner, Institute IELS, one of the world’s leading language schools.
As we approach Popeye Village, the colors become brighter, the sea unrealistically blue, and the excitement impossible to hide. This is the very bay chosen by Paramount Pictures in the 1980s as the perfect setting for the legendary Popeye film — and even today, it still feels like a movie scene waiting to come alive.
The original wooden houses are still there, just as they were built for filming. Film props tell their own quiet stories. And suddenly, English is no longer something being learned — it is simply being used, naturally, effortlessly, in the middle of it all.
The day unfolds easily. Exploring the village. Laughing with characters. Sliding into the sea. A boat ride across the bay, past cliffs and small hidden caves. Phones fill up with photos meant for parents back home, but also for something more important — memory.

Yes – they didn’t just visit the attraction; they became part of its story. In front of professional cameras, using English naturally and confidently, they experienced what it means to communicate without fear, in a real-life, inspiring environment.
