English Courses in London

Throughout the year, students can choose General English programs with different intensity levels.

Standard General English (20 lessons/week)

The standard course includes 20 lessons per week. You will work on all four language skills— speaking, listening, reading, and writing — while Kings teachers use a communicative teaching approach, ensuring you practice English actively and confidently in real-life situations.

Intensive General English (28 lessons/week)

The intensive program combines the standard General English course with one elective module, so you study General English for 20 lessons per week, and then focus on a specialized topic during the remaining 8 lessons.

Students can choose one of the following modules: Business English, Fluency and Discussion, Postgraduate Study Skills, Pronunciation, Oxford and British Life, or English Through Art.

Business English and Career-Focused Options

Kings is also well known for its high-quality Business English and professional development programs. For students who want a more career-oriented course, Kings offers three specialized tracks: English Plus Business, Marketing & Finance, English Plus Law, and English Plus Art and Design.

If your English level is intermediate (Intermediate / B1), you can choose an intensive IELTS preparation course, since Kings College is a licensed IELTS testing center. This course includes 28 lessons per week and is designed to prepare students for the exam in the shortest possible time. IELTS preparation courses last 2, 3, 4, or more weeks, and enrollment is possible every Monday. All teachers on these programs are certified IELTS examiners.

First Certificate in English (FCE)

First Certificate in English (FCE), also known as Cambridge English: First, is the upper-intermediate Cambridge exam in English and corresponds to level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Candidates at this level are expected to be able to work or study in English and to manage comfortably as tourists in English-speaking countries. This certificate is accepted as sufficient proof of English proficiency for employment and some study programs around the world. The course is offered in an intensive format (28 lessons per week), and you can choose between 4, 8, 10, or 12 weeks of preparation.

Prices for the 4-week preparation course with different accommodation options are listed below in the price list, while prices for other options are provided upon request after we receive a detailed inquiry. Cambridge English: First (B2 First) starts on January 5 (10 weeks), March 16 (12 weeks), May 11 (4 weeks), July 6 (4 weeks), August 3 (4 weeks), September 21 (12 weeks), and November 16 (4 weeks).

If you plan to take the exam immediately after the course, you should also budget for the additional cost of a fifth week of accommodation, as well as the exam fee. The price for the extra fifth week, as well as the cost of preparation courses longer than 4 weeks, is provided on request.

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), also known as Cambridge English: Advanced, is the first of the two highest levels of Cambridge English exams and corresponds to level C1 on the CEFR. Candidates at this level are expected to handle most situations confidently in social, professional, and higher education environments in English-speaking countries. CAE is recognized by almost all universities and colleges worldwide, and it is also widely accepted by employers.

Prices for the 4-week preparation course with different accommodation options are listed below in the price list, and the start dates for Cambridge English: Advanced are May 11, July 6, August 3, and November 16.

If you would like to take the exam after the course, you should plan for an additional fifth week of accommodation, as well as an exam fee of around £160. The price for the extra fifth week, as well as the cost of preparation courses longer than 4 weeks, is provided on request.

Accommodation

Homestay (Host Family)

Staying with a host family is a great way to experience everyday life in England while practicing spoken English on a daily basis in a natural environment. Accommodation is available for students aged 16 and above, and is arranged with carefully selected host families.

Students stay in single rooms and the package includes half board, meaning breakfast and dinner are provided each day. Students should bring their own towels, and host families typically offer laundry once per week.

For students who prefer more comfort and privacy, larger rooms or rooms with a private bathroom can be arranged for an additional £80 per week.

Most host families are located within 10 to 30 minutes from the school on foot, although in some cases students may need to use public transport.

Student Shared Apartments

For students who prefer a more independent and slightly more affordable option, we recommend student shared apartments. Each apartment is shared with 5 or 6 other Kings students. Accommodation is provided in single rooms on a self-catering basis (room only), while students share the living room, bathroom, and kitchen.

The apartments are located within a 10 to 20 minute walk from the school. To stay in student shared apartments, students must be at least 18 years old.

Kings Apartments

Less than a 15-minute walk from the college, Kings offers excellent, recently fully renovated apartments owned by the school and designed for adult students (18+). The apartments include both single and twin rooms, as well as a modern shared kitchen and a shared lounge area.

Outside the high season, which runs from June 28 to August 2, it is possible to book a twin room only if two students are traveling and attending the program together. This accommodation is available year-round and is offered on a self-catering basis (room only).

The selected English language program with the specified number of lessons, all course materials, the non-refundable £85 registration administration fee, a placement test at the start of the course, and a certificate upon completion. The £50 registration fee, airfare and related taxes, airport transfers, visa application costs, and travel insurance.
