Enroll in Italian language courses in Florence and let the language come alive around you. Small groups, skilled teachers, and the unique atmosphere of the city make this the ideal setting to build lasting confidence and real fluency.
Florence
Florence is the kind of city that makes you look up, slow down, and pay attention. Renaissance beauty is everywhere, from quiet cobblestone streets to sunlit piazzas and bridges over the Arno. But it is not a museum. It is a living city with a strong local rhythm: morning espresso at the bar, lively markets, evening passeggiata, and conversations that spill out onto terraces. Whether you are admiring world-famous art or simply ordering gelato with confidence, Florence has a way of turning everyday moments into something memorable — and it is the perfect backdrop for learning Italian naturally.
School
Linguaviva is one of Italy’s most respected language schools, based in the very center of Florence. Founded in 1976, it has built a strong reputation for helping international students learn Italian through real-life practice, cultural exchange, and everyday communication.

Alongside its campuses in Milan and Lignano, Linguaviva offers a wide selection of language courses in Florence. Classes take place in an elegant 19th-century building—an inspiring setting that puts you within easy reach of the city’s art, history, and daily rhythm.
We chose Linguaviva because it shares our belief that the best way to learn is to use Italian from the very beginning. From your first day, Italian is the language of the classroom, helping you progress quickly and start thinking naturally in Italian. Whether you are starting from zero or building on existing skills, you will find a course designed to match your level and goals.
Italian Courses
Students can choose a standard course in general Italian language in groups of up to 12 students, with a workload of 20 hours per week. The teaching method is communicative, with the first two hours covering grammar, while the next two focus on developing communication skills in speaking and writing.
For motivated students who want faster progress and are willing to invest more effort and energy, an intensive Italian language course of 30 hours per week is recommended. The first 4 hours each day are dedicated to general Italian language, while the two afternoon hours develop communication skills through authentic content from media, film, art, and contemporary Italian society.
The super-intensive program offers 30 hours per week, with 20 hours in a group and 10 individual (1-on-1 with a teacher).
In all program variants, a class lasts 45 minutes, and to advance to a higher knowledge level, it is necessary to attend one teaching module lasting 4 weeks.
Individual one-on-one programs are also available with 20 or 30 hours of individual lessons per week, allowing for the fastest progress in mastering Italian.
In addition to standard courses, the school offers specialized individual (one-on-one) Italian language courses for fashion, design, and architecture, as well as individual courses for business and economics.
Linguaviva is accredited by the University for Foreigners of Siena and is a preparatory center for taking the CILS (Certificazione di Italiano come Lingua Straniera) exam. Individual preparation for the CILS exam allows students to significantly improve language skills and master necessary techniques to successfully pass the exam.
The program is organized throughout the year for all language levels. The CILS certificate is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and achieving the B1/B2 level is necessary if you want to apply to some Italian universities.
Excursions & Activities
Learning Italian does not stop when class ends. The school offers a rich weekly program designed to get you out into Florence and speaking — naturally, confidently, and often without even noticing you are practicing. Expect guided visits to Florence’s most important museums and galleries, walks through some of the city’s most character-filled neighborhoods, and relaxed evenings out for aperitivo with classmates.
