Summer School in New York (for students aged 12-18)

One of the most enticing English learning programs for young people offered by our language network is the Summer School in New York. It seamlessly combines high-quality English language instruction with engaging extracurricular activities, leaving our youngest participants breathless with excitement.

Known as the “capital of the world,” the “city that never sleeps,” and the “Big Apple,” New York truly lives up to these nicknames as the center of global economics, politics, international relations, culture, fashion, and show business. With approximately 150 museums, 500 galleries, over 100 theaters, numerous department stores, and around 17,000 restaurants, New York attracts 45 million people annually, including a growing number of our language learners.

With more than 20 years of experience, St Andrew’s offers residential English courses across an impressive network of locations in the UK, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Ayr, Keele, Colchester, Gloucester, Canterbury, Brighton, Bognor Regis, Kent, Exeter, and London, as well as in the US at New York, Miami, and Malibu.

Safety, quality, and accreditation are at the heart of the experience: St Andrew’s UK centers are fully accredited by the British Council under Accreditation UK, and the school is a proud member of English UK. Their cultural and activity program is also British Council–accredited, and the staff continually innovate to bring fun, engaging excursions and social experiences to students

Classes for young learners are held in modern classrooms with no more than 15 students per group, ensuring that age and language proficiency are carefully considered for each participant.

The Summer Language School in New York takes place at the prestigious Fordham University, whose postgraduate programs in finance are ranked among the top twenty in America. The modernly equipped Rose Hill campus is located near the beautiful Botanical Garden and Zoo, just a 17-minute subway ride to Manhattan. The university even has its own subway station on the express Lexington Avenue line leading to popular New York landmarks such as Yankee Stadium, Central Park, and Fifth Avenue.

A special feature of this summer language school is that all extracurricular and sports activities are held within the campus, while off-campus visits and excursions are exclusively conducted under the supervision of school staff and group leaders.

Program

Classes take place in international groups with a maximum of 15 students per group. On the first day, participants take a diagnostic test and are then placed in classes according to their level. In addition to knowledge levels, the age criterion is also considered when forming classes, ensuring that students in one group are of approximately the same knowledge and age.

The course includes 20 lessons (15 hours per week), using a communicative teaching method, allowing each student to participate in interactive group work or paired activities.

Participants receive a textbook and accompanying materials (included in the price), and at the end of the course, a certificate indicating the level of knowledge achieved.

Activities and Free Time

All language network summer schools are designed for young people to learn English through context, using the language in real-life situations. Therefore, extracurricular and fun activities are carefully planned and play a central role in learning, as well as in the rapid adaptation of participants to the international environment within and outside the school.

Daily and evening activities are included in the price, along with up to five excursions per week. Attendance at activities is mandatory. Students can choose additional activities at an extra cost, such as touring Manhattan in a famous American limousine (approximately $90).
