My LONDON – turning English language learning into an unforgettable experience

English language course in London for travel fans, Verbalists

English language learning while experiencing all the sights, sounds and spirit of London

For our students who prefer a very dynamic approach to language learning, we have devised exciting and unique study travel packages – My Language Experience programs. What makes them unique is the opportunity to bring the culture of the chosen location into the heart of the learning environment, thus turning language lessons into an unforgettable experience.

💥 My LONDON has been by far the most popular My Language Experience program for 15 years in a row. It combines General English courses with sightseeing to uncover a side of London that is most interesting and that often only locals see.

Packed full of history and culture, London is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world. There is so much to see and do in London, from Buckingham Palace and Number 10 to the Tower of London and the London Dungeons as well as the beautiful parks.

Our experienced Verbalists Language Network travel guide will always be there with you to help you practice your English language skills and immerse yourself in the real London. Let’s discover together the exciting way to learn English with the My LONDON program!

School

During afternoons you will be learning English in one of the best British schools. Our long term partner St Giles is a school group that was founded in 1955 in London, which has since developed into one of the largest private international English language training organizations in the world. Today, St Giles teaches over 14,000 students from over 100 different countries in 7 year-round schools, as well as in many Junior Summer Schools in the UK, USA and Canada.

St Giles is fully accredited and regularly assessed for the teaching of English by the British Council in the UK, the CEA (The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) in the USA, and Languages Canada in Canada. These are major independent bodies that control quality standards in language centers in the UK, USA and Canada. St Giles centers in the US are also members of AAIEP, while the ones in the UK are members of English UK.

The Verbalists Language Network uses the St Giles center in Highgate for the My LONDON program, as that school offers an ideal learning setting for our students – a relaxed atmosphere and very safe place to study.

St Giles London Highgate School is located in the fashionable London suburb. Highgate is a beautiful, prosperous, green area of North London, only a short distance from the center of the capital, with excellent transport connections (central London is only 20 minutes away by tube). The school occupies a charming building, surrounded by its own fantastic English garden, where students often have their classes in the open air, weather permitting. See the school’s video here.

Program

The My LONDON program is an ultimate language experience, designed for students age 16-25. Every morning, students will enjoy unique city excursions and activities around London while being accompanied by the Verbalists guide. In the afternoon, they will then go to school to study a General English course with 20 lessons per week. Weekends are reserved for exciting half-day and full-day excursions to Brighton, Oxford and Cambridge, as well as for resting and shopping.

English Courses
Course Duration: 1-5 weeks
Lessons per week: 20
Lesson length: 50 minutes
Age: 16-25

Teaching method – the St Giles approach to teaching and learning a language is ‘Learner Centered’. This means that the school focuses on the needs, interests and aims of each student, and plan the content of the course on the basis of this information. Learners are encouraged to participate actively in the process of learning and acquiring the new language, while learner independence is constantly promoted. All school teachers are experienced, native level English speakers, and many are qualified to Masters level.

We regularly inspect the school’s teaching and talk to our students about their learning experience. The common conclusion is that the St Giles teachers always deliver fast-paced interactive lessons so that students are motivated to learn. Courses are interesting, relevant and enjoyable.

Safety & Guidance

The Verbalists Language Network’s group leaders and guides represent a team of experienced professionals who themselves participated in language study and professional training programs. Furthermore, they were trained by partner colleges to assess, analyze and counsel a student; they also underwent Inspections & Inspector Training Course organized by EAQUALS (European Association of Quality Language Services).

Accommodation

Homestay

This popular accommodation option is the ideal choice if you want to practice your English outside the classroom and learn about British culture and way of life first hand.

London is a huge city, and is divided into 6 “Zones”. Zone 1 is closest to the center, and Zone 6 is furthest from the center. St Giles London Highgate is in Zone 3.

Highgate is located in a peaceful residential area of London. This means your homestay will be only 15-45 minutes by bus or tube away from the school. Some accommodation is within walking distance. Homestay half board is the most popular choice, but a breakfast only, or a self-catering option, where students can do their own cooking and laundry, can also be arranged.

You will live as part of a family or household, in a single bedroom, sharing all the living areas, and with all the facilities at home that you need. Meals are provided (breakfast and dinner).

Highlights:

  • Carefully selected and monitored hosts
  • Choice of half board, breakfast only or self-catering
  • Choice of single or shared rooms (for students travelling together)
  • All bed linen and towels provided
  • Approximately 15-45 minutes away from the school

Student Residences

Chester House is a very popular year-round residence for 18 to 25-year old students. The Verbalists Language Network has been using this residence for over 15 years and our groups may also include 16- and 17-year old young learners, provided they are accompanied by our group leader. Important: a Verbalists guide/group leader is also accommodated at Chester House.

The residence is located in Muswell Hill, approximately 15 minutes from the St Giles London Highgate school by bus (both bus stops, for arrival and departure to or from the school, are just in front of the residence). The local area of Muswell Hill is a lovely and safe place to live.

Chester House has beautiful gardens with its own tennis courts. The residence offers single study bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Facilities include a games room, lounge, TV lounge, gym and music room, laundry room and kitchenette.

The on-site dining room provides breakfast and dinner every day and all meals at weekends. The menu contains a wide range of options and tries to cater for all needs. We should mention that our students are particularly happy with the quality of meals.

Due to the high popularity of this residence and the limited number of rooms, we strongly recommend early booking/reservation.

  • on-site dining room;
  • half-board on weekdays and full-board on weekends;
  • Free Wi-Fi;
