Kaplan’s school in Cambridge is housed in a beautiful Edwardian building in the peaceful Newnham neighborhood.
Eight bright classrooms offer an idyllic location for a true English experience, and the school is less than ten minutes bike ride from central Cambridge, with no end of history and picturesque English scenery for you to enjoy.
Every summer our students enjoy barbecues in the private garden and delicious home-made food at school’s on-site café.
Kaplan Cambridge is accredited by the British Council, and is a member of English UK. These are highly respected organizations that represent and help maintain the best English language schools in the country.
All teachers have a level of education normally represented by a degree and they also have a CELTA or equivalent qualification. Some teachers also hold the higher level DELTA qualification, PGCE, or MA in applied linguistics.

Courses
Kaplan has a wide variety of courses available to study English in Cambridge.
Courses available at the Kaplan Cambridge school include General English, Semi-Intensive and Intensive, Academic Year, and IELTS preparation.
Orientation starts every Monday at 09:00. This includes a placement test, school induction presentation, and a walking tour of Cambridge. The day ends with an welcome evening at 18:00. On their first day, students are expected to bring their passport, a pen, some paper, and money for lunch.
General English
General English course is designed to improve your English language skills and give you more professional and academic options in the future. As well as taking lessons, you will have plenty of time to sight-see and explore your destination. 📄 See the program details here

Semi-Intensive English

Intensive English
You want a fast English learning course? Pack more training and support into your English program. Intensive English courses offer you the maximum classroom time each week, with extra lessons focusing on specific skills such as Business English, Academic English, Literature or TOEFL/IELTS preparation. English Exam Preparation
If you want to upgrade your career with an internationally recognized English qualification, then you can enroll in IELTS preparation programs.
IELTS is the most popular English qualification, particularly if you are hoping to work or study in the UK, Ireland, Australia or Canada. During the Intensive IELTS Preparation course you will learn what to expect from the different IELTS exam sections, ways to make the most of your exam time, and how to prepare for the types of questions you’ll find in the exam. Activities
With over 800 years of university history and an array of beautiful buildings from centuries past, you’ll be in idyllic surroundings almost everywhere you go. The River Cam flows through the city, and you can spend a jolly afternoon on it punting on traditional boats.
The school also organizes various activities, so you’ll have ample opportunity to socialize, with film nights, paintballing, and even shows in London, located just an hour away by train.
What to do in Cambridge – our recommendation:
Monday – Discover the magnificent Gothic Chapel at King’s College.
Tuesday – Visit the university’s Botanic Gardens, founded by Charles Darwin’s mentor, Professor John Stevens Henslow.
Wednesday – Take a bike ride to local villages.
Thursday – Go punting on the river Cam.
Friday – Enjoy afternoon tea in Grantchester in the Orchard Tea Rooms where Virginia Woolf used to write.
Weekend – Spend an afternoon at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
Accommodation
Kaplan guarantees the same excellent standards for accommodation as they do for teaching. Accommodation is offered with host families or in Student Castle Residence.
Homestay
Homestay is ideal for students who want to discover local culture and customs with a friendly host.
TRANSPORT TO SCHOOL: Your host will help you to find your way to and from school on your first day and will show you how to use public transport.
WHERE ARE THE HOST FAMILIES LOCATED? Cherry Hinton, Trumpington, Fen Ditton, Arbury, Cambourne
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Your host will usually live 40-50 minutes (or up to a 30-minute bike ride) away from the school.
This accommodation is on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner).
- BREAKFAST: Breakfast is usually a light meal consisting of cereal, fruit, toast, juice, or coffee. Hosts will usually ask you to prepare your own breakfast.
- LUNCH: You will be responsible for buying your own lunch at school, from a local restaurant, or the local shops.
- DINNER: You will usually eat dinner with your host; you will not be able to prepare your own meals in the evenings
You can choose either a single or twin room, complete with a study space, free WiFi, with bed linen and towels provided. Laundry is included once a week.

- for single room with private bathroom add ₤40 per week
- for students under 18 add ₤20 per week
Residence (ages 18 and over)
Student Castle is a contemporary residence located just a short cycle to the universities, Jesus Green, and the neighbourhood’s cafes and boutique shops. Enjoy the splendour of the city while punting along the River Cam, passing through the Bridge of Sighs. Kaplan’s school is only 15 minutes away by bike, one of the preferred modes of transport for Cambridge residents.
ACCOMMODATION TYPE:
- Studio rooms with double bed, fitted wardrobe, private bathroom.
- Single rooms with en-suite bathroom and a shared kitchen.
Students have access to the on-site gym and bike storage.
Bed linen is provided, but students should bring their own towels – they can wash both for a fee using the on-site laundry facilities.
Dates and Prices
Arrivals and departures are normally on Saturdays (extra nights might be possible at additional cost). Classes start on Mondays.
