English Courses in London for young adults – St. Giles London Highgate School

Our long-term partner, St. Giles, offers a variety of English language programs designed for both young learners and adults seeking to improve their language skills. Their London Highgate school is particularly suitable for students aged 16 to 30, but individuals over the age of 30 are also welcome.

London Highgate

Highgate, an exclusive residential district of London, featuring a small-town charm with abundant green spaces and modern amenities, including boutiques, pubs, and restaurants. It’s just 20 minutes away from central London, making it a peaceful and safe environment for students. Highgate was once home to notable figures like Freud, Karl Marx, and Charles Dickens, and today, residents include celebrities like Sting, Boy George, and Kate Moss.

School

Our long term partner St Giles is a school group that was founded in 1955 in London, which has since developed into one of the largest private international English language training organizations in the world. Today, St Giles teaches over 14,000 students from over 100 different countries in 7 year-round schools, as well as in many Junior Summer Schools in the UK, USA and Canada.

St Giles is fully accredited and regularly assessed for the teaching of English by the British Council in the UK, the CEA (The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation) in the USA, and Languages Canada in Canada. These are major independent bodies that control quality standards in language centers in the UK, USA and Canada. St Giles centers in the US are also members of AAIEP, while the ones in the UK are members of English UK.

St. Giles London Highgate boasts modern classrooms, a traditional language laboratory, a computer lab with free internet access, a well-stocked library, and a DVD collection.

The school building is surrounded by a spacious garden where BBQ events are frequently held. In addition to international students learning English, you’ll find English locals attending courses to become English language teachers.

English Courses in London

You can choose courses lasting 2, 3, 4, or more weeks. Classes are held in the morning or afternoon, with each lesson lasting 50 minutes.

For absolute beginners, classes are available four times a year in small groups, accommodating up to 12 students. These programs commence on the following dates: January 8th, March 25th, July 22nd, and September 23rd. There are two program options – 20 lessons per week (09:00-13:00), and 28 lessons per week (09:00-15:50).

Apart from the standard 20-hour-per-week variant, General English can also be taken with 28 hours per week (9:00 AM-3:30 PM). There’s also a Business English course, which prepares students for the internationally recognized BEC (Cambridge Business English Certificate) diploma exam, with the same number of weekly hours.

For faster progress, consider the English Plus Program, which includes 5 additional individual lessons per week for £290 weekly.

If you have an intermediate-level (Intermediate/B1) knowledge of English, you can opt for the IELTS Preparation course with 20 hours per week, which is equivalent to 4 hours daily (9:00 AM-1:00 PM). This course lasts a minimum of 4 weeks, and all classes have a maximum of 12 students.

There are no classes on Saturdays and Sundays, or on the following public or school holidays: 1 Jan, 29 March, 1 Apr, 6 May, 27 May, 26 Aug, 25 & 26 Dec
Classes are also suspended between 23-27 December.

Accommodation

Homestay

This popular accommodation option is the ideal choice if you want to practice your English outside the classroom and learn about British culture and way of life first hand.

London is a huge city, and is divided into 6 “Zones”. Zone 1 is closest to the center, and Zone 6 is furthest from the center. St Giles London Highgate is in Zone 3.

Highgate is located in a peaceful residential area of London. This means your homestay will be only 15-45 minutes by bus or tube away from the school. Some accommodation is within walking distance. Homestay half board is the most popular choice, but a breakfast only, or a self-catering option, where students can do their own cooking and laundry, can also be arranged.

You will live as part of a family or household, in a single bedroom, sharing all the living areas, and with all the facilities at home that you need.

Important Note: A double room can be reserved if two participants are traveling together, and the price is available upon request.

The dinner supplement is £48 per week.

For students aged 16 and 17, the British Council regulations require additional monitoring by the school and mandatory half-board accommodation. Therefore, the family accommodation prices listed in the table should have an additional £82 per week.

Student Residences

Chapter Highbury

Chapter Highbury is for young professionals (min. age 18) looking for great quality independent living. This is a self-catering residence (no meals provided), located a 30-minute bus journey from the St Giles London Highgate and 20 minutes from the London Central school. The local area is notable for exciting music venues, shops, restaurants and cafes as well as its proximity to the Emirates Stadium (home of Arsenal FC) and London Metropolitan University. Holloway Road Underground Station is right next to the residence, offering a direct, quick and easy journey to the city center.

Chapter Highbury offers single rooms with private bathrooms and fantastic facilities, including a cinema, games room, on-site gym and study room.

Mannequin House

Mannequin House Residence is an excellent accommodation in East London. Just one step away from Blackhorse Road tube station, the surroundings offer everything a student needs: nice student cafés, gastronomic pubs and restaurants, with various cuisines and prices to suit all budgets. Social activities are a central part of this residence, to recreate the family feeling away from home.

This is also a self-catering residence (no meals provided), located a 35-minute from the St Giles London Highgate and 40 minutes from the London Central school by public transport.

Mannequin House offers en-suite single rooms, with access to a high-tech kitchen, Wi-Fi, and a common room with a large TV and lounge space. Students have access to on-site staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For all programs, the arrival and departure are on Sundays, with classes commencing on Mondays.
