We were excited to be invited by our long-standing partners at Dukes Education to visit their prestigious summer schools in Oxford on August 1st. Spending time with the Dukes team provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen our partnership, discuss student enrollment activities, and plan for the year ahead. The visit also gave us a deeper insight into the exceptional educational opportunities that awaited our students.
A Day of Discovery: Touring SBC’s Premier Oxford Summer Schools
01-AUG-2024 | What an amazing day! Our team explored several prestigious schools and colleges in Oxford, each providing an exceptional learning environment and hosting summer programs organized by Summer Boarding Courses (SBC). Since its founding in 2008, SBC, a part of Dukes Education, has earned acclaim as an award-winning provider of residential summer schools and day camps.
Headington School: Inspiring Programs for Future Leaders

Our journey began at Headington School, where we were introduced to the inspiring summer programs that SBC provides for students aged 13-16. Set in a beautiful, secure location just a short distance from Oxford’s city center, Headington blends historic and modern architecture. Students stay in mostly twin rooms, with some single and dormitory options available.
Headington students have a range of exciting courses to choose from, including General English, Future Global Leaders, Future Business Leaders, Future Doctors & Future Scientists. One of the standout features of the program, loved by our students, is Time to Shine. This element encourages students to draw on the knowledge they’ve gained throughout the week, culminating in thought-provoking presentations that showcase their learning.
Camp Dragon: A Supportive Environment for Young Learners
Our next stop was Camp Dragon, where students aged 8-12 thrive in a vibrant, nurturing setting. The campus truly reflects SBC’s commitment to creating safe, stimulating spaces where children can grow academically and socially. Students stay in shared dormitories, fostering a sense of community and connection.
The Young Explorers program at Camp Dragon stands out with its blend of thematic lessons, workshops, and activities. This approach ensures that learning English goes beyond language acquisition – it becomes a gateway to exploring various subjects and ideas, making the experience truly enriching.
St Hugh’s College: Walking in the Footsteps of Oxford Scholars
A highlight of the day was our visit to St Hugh’s College, known for its serene gardens and inclusive atmosphere. St Hugh’s offers students aged 15-17 the unique opportunity to live and study within the walls of Oxford University. Here, they can engage with lectures, tutorials, and industry workshops led by distinguished academics and professionals.
This is one of the ways Verbalists provides students from developing countries the chance to live and learn like Oxford scholars – an opportunity often out of reach but made possible through our partnership with Dukes Education. Our collaboration enables these students to access these prestigious programs at reduced rates, offering a world-class education that is both attainable and life-changing.
Wadham College: Academic Excellence in a Historical Setting
The next stop was Wadham College, where history and academic excellence converge. Wadham serves as another site for Duke’s Oxford College Summer School, where students are prepared not only for university life but for their future academic and professional journeys. This prestigious college, steeped in tradition, offers an inspiring environment for students to broaden their horizons.

Lunch at Browns Restaurant: Exchanging Ideas and Future Plans
Our day concluded with a delightful lunch at Browns Restaurant in Oxford, where we had the chance to sit down with senior management from Dukes Education. It was a fantastic opportunity to exchange views on educational trends, discuss future initiatives, and continue our shared goal of providing exceptional learning experiences for students from all backgrounds.
