My name is Sofija Vejapi, and the summer school in Los Angeles with Verbalists was my first trip alone. This is my story.
14-MAR-2025 | If someone told me before the summer that two weeks in LA would totally change how I see the world, I would probably just laugh. But then I arrived at UCLA, and suddenly everything felt possible. The campus was huge and beautiful — so modern, full of energy, and full of people from many countries who came for summer programs. There were so many cool spots, sports fields, and places to hang out that I immediately felt like I was part of something big and inspiring.
The classes were very practical, fun, and completely different from regular school at home. The teachers were relaxed and always encouraged us to talk, work together, and be creative. I felt like I was learning without pressure, but actually learning even better than usual.
Of course, there were moments I will never forget. My friends and I went right away to take photos with the legendary Hollywood sign. I know everyone takes pictures there, but seeing it in real life felt totally different — like I stepped into my own little movie.
And then Universal Studios… that is where my inner fifteen-year-old woke up, even though I’m 17 😂 The roller coasters, the movie sets, the whole atmosphere… everything was full of energy. And the best part: I was with a group ready for every adventure.
What meant the most to me during my stay in Los Angeles was that I felt more free, brave, and independent than ever before. I started talking to new people, speaking English all the time, and finding my way in a completely new place.
And I really have to say — the team from Prodirekt and Verbalists was amazing. Not “formal and polite,” but truly kind and real. Their support made it so much easier to travel so far. It felt like someone was taking care of all the details for you, so you could relax and enjoy everything.
